Abrasive Waterjet Cutting

is a method of cutting shapes from any type of material using high pressure water and abrasive. Water is pressurized to 50,000 PSI using hydraulic intensification, and then forced through a small orifice in the cutting head. At the head, abrasive is added to the water, creating a cutting stream which exits the nozzle at 1.5 times the speed of sound. Through a combination of micro-erosion grinding and shearing action of the pressure, a narrow cross section of material is removed all the way through the thickness. The process is then controlled via computer. Any two dimensional shape from nearly any material is possible.

The resulting surface finish on the cut surfaces is far superior when compared to laser cut, torch cut or sawed surfaces. The process is non-evasive and does not work-harden the cut edges. Depending on material and dimensional tolerances desired, some sheet stock can be stacked for faster through-put.

  • Cuts virtually any material.
  • Most cost effective when metal materials are under 1/2 inch thick.
  • Accurately cut 2-dimensional geometries within ±0.010.
  • Customer AutoCAD drawings can be retrieved via e-mail.
  • Scanned images or free-hand drawings can be scaled and cut.
  • We can produce AutoCAD drawings from your blue prints.

Non-Ferrous and Refractory Metals

At Euclid Precision Grinding, Inc. we use abrasives to shape specialty metals into essential components used in the semi-conductor, aerospace, medical and machine tool industries. In particular, our expertise with refractory metals like Molybdenum and Tungsten is well regarded internationally.

With over 60 years doing nothing but grinding, we probably have more experience with specialty metals than most shops have with regular steels. Orders completed on a regular basis include the following:

Aluminum   Hastelloy   MP35N

Brass   Heavy Metal Tungsten Alloy   Stainless Steels

Bronze   Inconel   Tantalum

Ceramics   Manganese Steel   Titanium

Chromium   Molybdenum   Tungsten

Chrome Removal   Monel   Tungsten Carbide

Columbium   Nickel Alloys   TZM Alloy

Copper   Nitralloy   Waspalloy

Copper-Tungsten Alloy   Densimet   Zirconium

In addition to our experience with unusual metals, our Abrasive Waterjets are utilized to cut other materials used in industry, including plastics of every type, fiberglass, rubber, composites, and laminated materials.

We have also contributed to architectural designers and building contractors, where we have used our waterjets to cut intricate light fixture components from brass or aluminum, decorative steel stair-case details, unusually shaped ceramic floor tile and even marble counter tops.
